Module 2: Anger & Trauma
Anger and trauma are deeply connected and understanding that connection changes everything.
In Module 2 of Navigating Anger, Brave Step‘s Brave Bytes series explores where anger comes from after trauma, why it shows up as a defense mechanism, and how it can become a catalyst for recovery rather than something to suppress.
You don’t need to be a counselor to make a difference; these are practical tools for everyday life.
This module is for anyone navigating anger — survivors, loved ones, allies, advocates and anyone doing community care work.
What you’ll learn:
- Where trauma-related anger comes from — helplessness, betrayal, fear, and injustice
- Internal vs. external expressions of anger, and anger as self-protection
- Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn: automatic survival responses, not character flaws
- The role of anger in recovery — moving from resentment to empowerment
- Allowing emotions without shame, and when to seek professional support
A note on care: This video discusses trauma, including sexual violence. Please watch at your own pace — pause, step away, or return later. Find a quiet space, keep a journal nearby, and be gentle with yourself.
