Keeping Children Safe at the Holidays

As the holiday season approaches, the focus often shifts to festive gatherings, family traditions and creating joyful memories. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s crucial to address a topic that isn’t always on the agenda but is vitally important—keeping children safe from sexual trauma.

Did you know that every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted, and every 9 minutes that victim is a child? With 93% of perpetrators being known to the child—34% being relatives and 59% non-relative friends or acquaintances—ensuring your child’s safety is paramount, and the risk extends even to siblings and within the context of the family itself.

How can you prepare and protect the children in your care during this special time of year? Join Brave Step and Feather Berkower, LCSW, a leading expert in child sexual assault prevention and founder of Parenting Safe Children, for an essential webinar on safeguarding your loved ones.

In this informative session on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET, you will learn:

  • Understanding Sexual Trauma: What it is, who it affects and who the perpetrators might be.
  • Empowering Your Child: Techniques for teaching consent, body safety and healthy boundaries. Learn about secrets vs. surprises and how to recognize and address any discomfort your child might feel.
  • Effective Communication: Strategies for having brave, proactive conversations with family members, caregivers and allies. Discover how to talk about body safety with those around you and how to use Feather’s Conversation Starter Cards to facilitate these discussions.

For those who attend the full session, Brave Step will provide a copy of Parenting Safe Children’s “Conversation-Starter Cards.”

Reserve your spot today to gain invaluable insights and tools that will help protect the children you care about and make this holiday season a time of celebration without worry.
