Biography
With a passion for supporting survivors of trauma and abuse, Jeannie Owens found her calling as a therapist at the turn of the century. The Chicago native earned a master’s in social work degree from the University of North Carolina in 2003 and began an 11-year career at United Family Services, now Safe Alliance. In her last five years there, she also supervised clinicians and delivered trauma-focused community education.
In addition, Owens began her private practice in 2007 and then joined Karen Doolittle, LMFT in 2011. A passion for this work is evident by a history of complex trauma trainings by the nation’s foremost leaders on trauma – John Briere, Christine Courtois, Peter Levine, and Bessel van der Kolk. With nearly 20 years of experience under her belt, Owens also provides couples counseling and works closely with the LGBTIQ population.
Owens earned a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree in English at Albion College in Michigan. She has been married to her husband, Walker, for 38 years with two amazing children – Charlotte and David – and three grandchildren.
As a bonus, she has a special talent of playing handbells and loves to read, walk, and swim.
