πŸ’™ Voices of Change πŸ’™ What does freedom trul πŸ’™ Voices of Change πŸ’™

What does freedom truly mean?

For many survivors of sexual violence, freedom is not simply about leaving the past behind. It is about reclaiming what trauma can take away, a sense of safety, trust, choice, connection and the ability to fully experience life on their own terms.

Freedom after trauma is not forgetting what happened.
It is no longer allowing what happened to define what is possible.

Long-time trauma therapist Micki McDonough, LCMHC, shares this powerful reminder:

β€œNone of us are free as long as one being is touched in a way that feels bad to them.
Let freedom ring!”

Micki’s words remind us that true freedom requires more than independence. It requires compassion, respect and a commitment to creating communities where every person’s boundaries and humanity are honored.

At Brave Step, we believe recovery is a powerful act of reclaiming freedom. Through support, connection and community, survivors can move toward a future where they are seen, heard, believed and empowered.

May we continue building a world where freedom means safety, dignity and the ability to grow.

πŸ’™ Leadership Is Curiosity πŸ’™ Leadership does πŸ’™ Leadership Is Curiosity πŸ’™

Leadership doesn’t always start with having the right answers.

Sometimes, leadership starts with a question.

Curiosity invites us to listen before we respond. It helps us better understand experiences different from our own and creates space for meaningful conversations, learning and change.

A curious person asks:
✨ β€œWhat can I learn?”
✨ β€œWhose voice needs to be heard?”
✨ β€œHow can I better support the people around me?”

When we approach difficult topics with curiosity instead of assumptions, we create opportunities for connection, empathy and action.

At Brave Step, we believe education is a powerful step toward creating safer, more supportive communities.

Be curious.
Keep learning.
Be part of the change.

πŸ’™ Freedom is something we all deserve. πŸ’™ As πŸ’™ Freedom is something we all deserve. πŸ’™

As we recognize Independence Day, we reflect on the deeper meaning of freedom, the ability to live with safety, dignity, choice and the opportunity to be fully ourselves.

For many survivors of sexual violence, the journey toward freedom can look different. It may mean finding their voice, rebuilding trust, reconnecting with themselves, or discovering that they are supported and believed.

At Brave Step, we believe every person deserves a future where they feel safe, valued and empowered.

Today, we honor the courage it takes to recover and the communities that make it possible.

Wishing you a meaningful Independence Day.
