Some people spend their careers caring for others.

Others continue learning so they can care even better.

Today, we're celebrating Karrie Shoffner, BSN, RN, MBA, whose commitment to survivors and lifelong learning continues to inspire us.

As Nurse Manager of the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner)/Forensic Nursing Program at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Karrie and her team are often on the front lines of care. During moments of crisis, they provide compassionate medical care, forensic expertise, and a steady presence for individuals experiencing one of the most difficult days of their lives.

Recently, Karrie reached another milestone by earning her MBA, a reflection of her belief that leadership is never finished learning.

For Karrie, growth isn't about adding letters after her name. It's about strengthening her ability to lead, advocate, and improve systems of care for survivors and the professionals who serve them.

As a member of Brave Step's Advisory Board, Karrie generously shares her expertise, perspective, and passion to help ensure survivors have access to compassionate, trauma-informed support long after they leave the hospital.

Please join us in congratulating Karrie on this incredible accomplishment and thanking her for the countless ways she leads with knowledge, compassion, and heart.

Congratulations, Karrie! πŸ’™

πŸ’™ Every Day Matters πŸ’™ Sometimes we think ma πŸ’™ Every Day Matters πŸ’™

Sometimes we think making a difference requires a huge commitment.

But what if it only required one day?

During our Every Day Matters campaign, individuals, families, coworkers, and friends come together to fill an entire month, one day at a time.

Each day represents someone saying: "I believe survivors deserve a community that stands beside them."

Your day becomes part of something much bigger.

Invite your workplace.
Invite your book club.
Invite your neighborhood.
Invite your faith community.

Together, small acts of generosity become lasting impact.

Who could you invite to help fill a month? To sign up, visit the link in our bio.

πŸ’™ Education Is Prevention πŸ’™ The best time t πŸ’™ Education Is Prevention πŸ’™

The best time to build trust is before it's needed.

Many parents and caregivers hope their child would tell them if something was wrong. But open communication doesn't usually begin during a crisis. It grows through small, everyday conversations.

Try making connection part of your daily routine.

Ask questions like:
πŸ’™ "What was the best part of your day?"
πŸ’™ "Was there anything that made you uncomfortable today?"
πŸ’™ "Who made you feel cared for today?"
πŸ’™ "Is there anything you'd like to talk about?"

These conversations don't have to be long or perfect. What matters most is creating a home where children know their thoughts, feelings and questions are always welcome.

When communication becomes a habit, children learn something powerful: "I can come to you, not just when something is wrong, but anytime."

Those everyday moments of connection help build trust that can last a lifetime.
