💙 Education Is Prevention Why does the news so 💙 Education Is Prevention

Why does the news sometimes feel overwhelming, especially for survivors?

For many, current events don’t just inform, they can reactivate past trauma.

This is called retraumatization, and it can happen when media coverage, headlines, or repeated exposure to distressing events overwhelm the nervous system.

💙 Signs you may be feeling overwhelmed by the news:
• Increased anxiety or emotional distress
• Trouble sleeping or concentrating
• Feeling on edge, numb, or shut down
• Avoiding news completely or feeling unable to look away

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone and there are ways to stay informed while still protecting your well-being.

💙 Gentle strategies to support yourself:
• Set boundaries around when and how you consume news
• Take breaks and notice what your body needs
• Choose trusted sources and limit repeated exposure
• Ground yourself with simple regulation practices (breathing, movement, connection)

You don’t have to disconnect completely to stay well.
You can stay informed and take care of yourself.

One Brave Thing 💙 If someone you love has expe One Brave Thing 💙

If someone you love has experienced sexual harm, one brave thing you can do is learn how to support them while also caring for yourself.

Our Loved Ones group returns June 2–July 7 as a six-week virtual series for family members, friends and partners of adult survivors. This trauma-informed space helps loved ones deepen understanding, strengthen connection and build practical skills for walking alongside a survivor.

You don’t have to have all the answers to take a brave step.
Sometimes, learning together is where courage begins.

💙 Honored to Be Recognized We’re grateful to 💙 Honored to Be Recognized

We’re grateful to share that Brave Step has been named Best Sexual Violence Support Charity 2026 by @_luxlifemag as part of their Health, Beauty & Wellness Awards 2026.

This recognition reflects something bigger than us — a community committed to supporting survivors, advancing prevention and creating spaces where recovery is possible.

Every conversation started, every story shared, every step taken together makes this work what it is.

To our survivors, supporters, partners and volunteers, this recognition belongs to you, too.

Thank you for walking alongside us. 💙
