🌟 Voices of Change: Meet Ronya Al-Humaidi 🌟 🌟 Voices of Change: Meet Ronya Al-Humaidi 🌟

Please join us in welcoming our newest clinical intern, Ronya Al-Humaidi, to the Brave Step team!

Ronya is a passionate advocate for mental health, maternal health and health equity. A graduate student pursuing her Master of Public Health at University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a concentration in Epidemiology, Health Informatics and Analytics, Ronya brings a strong foundation in both health care and program development.

With experience as a medical assistant at a fertility clinic and active involvement in campus public health initiatives, Ronya is ready to dive into trauma-informed work that uplifts survivors and builds community resilience.

We're grateful to have her on this journey. 💙

Lean in and Learn 💡 New research confirms what Lean in and Learn 💡

New research confirms what we’ve long seen in our work: The impact of childhood adversity, including sexual violence, can ripple through generations.

A new longitudinal study published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry reveals that when a mother experiences adversity as a child, it can significantly influence her children’s emotional, behavioral and cognitive development. These early traumas don’t stay in the past. They shape maternal mental health, relationships, caregiving and even socioeconomic stability.

This is why receiving help and support matters. For survivors. For families. For future generations.

🌀 Sexual violence has long-term effects that extend beyond the survivor and prevention and support must reflect that truth.

Toast to 10 🥂 | Voices That Move Us Forward As Toast to 10 🥂 | Voices That Move Us Forward

As we walk down memory lane, we’re honored to spotlight Janet Ganoung, a longtime volunteer, advocate and fierce supporter of survivors.

Reflecting on Brave Step’s journey, Janet shared why the Changemaker program matters so deeply. Her words remind us that this 10-year milestone isn’t just about what we’ve done, it’s about what we’ll do next.

Thank you, Janet, for being a voice of compassion, conviction and change. 💙

At Brave Step, we work to build a strong, supportive community by helping adults impacted by sexual violence claim the life they deserve; fostering brave public conversations about sexual violence; and cultivating a community of courageous changemakers to take action and help prevent future sexual violence.
