🔊 Voices of Change: Yauna Some voices for cha 🔊 Voices of Change: Yauna

Some voices for change begin with courageously sharing one’s own story.

For much of her life, Yauna carried deep shame and sadness from trauma, often feeling isolated in her struggles. Everything began to shift when a trusted therapist encouraged her to explore Brave Step, a space where connection, understanding, and healing thrive.

“I was genuinely surprised by the diverse individuals I met — men and women from all backgrounds — united by similar experiences,” she shares. “Participating in the peer-led groups not only helped me feel less alone but also sparked incredible personal growth and healing over the years. I’m grateful for the community and support that have made such a difference in my life.”

Today, Yauna is not only an active participant in Brave Step’s programs and activities, but also a peer group leader, helping others find the same hope and connection she once sought.

💙 “I am completely open with my healing, and Brave Step is like family. This journey has brought me so much peace as I live in my truth and accept the positivity from the supporters around me. It feels like a family that understands you more than you ever knew you needed.”

Yauna shows us that being a Voice of Change can mean turning pain into purpose, healing into hope and using your story to light the way for others.

✨ How will you use your voice for change?

Sexual violence is not just a personal tragedy. It Sexual violence is not just a personal tragedy. It’s a public cost we all bear.

📊 The numbers are staggering:
- $122,461 = the lifetime cost per survivor (medical care, justice system, lost productivity).
- $3.1 trillion = the total U.S. cost for all survivors.
- Survivors lose $5K–$15K in wages each year due to trauma.
- 70% of survivors never receive the mental health support they need.

Behind every statistic is a life forever changed.

👉 One Brave Thing you can do today: Commit to funding prevention and support. Even a small monthly gift helps close the gap for survivors who deserve recovery and hope.

As we get ready to celebrate more than a decade of impact, we’re looking back with gratitude at the partners and moments that have shaped Brave Step’s journey.

In 2023, we were honored to gather with our long-standing partner, @matthewsumc, a community that has walked alongside Brave Step and our mission for years. During this special event, Board President @court_ml and Brave Step Ambassador @supa_sharon shared powerful words about hope, recovery and the transformative work happening through Brave Step.

💙 Partnerships like this remind us that lasting change is built together, through community, compassion and shared commitment.

Here’s to continuing this incredible journey and building an even brighter future. 🥂
